New player needs money help
Hi there. Been playing Prophecies for a while now, I'm at level 14, but don't seem to making money very quickly. Tried selling stuff I've picked up to merchants, and tried salvaging them first as well, and selling them to the material traders, but neither way seems to make a lot of money.
What is the best way to earn money? |

Best way at this point, is to pick up everything that's dropped and sell it to the merchant (except, of course for rare weapons, dyes, etc., that are worth more to other players.)
As you progress through the game, gold is easier to come by - drops become more valuable and quest rewards get higher. Unless you are gathering materials for some purpose, such as crafting new armor, it is not cost effective to salvage stuff to sell the materials to the trader, unless the item is "highly salvageable". |

Money is easy
Well lets put that in perspective sufficient money to fully equip a character with the best armour and weapons and buy all the skills you need isn't that difficult to achieve. Your low down on the quality of drops right now later cash drops will go up from 10 to around 100 gold. Purple and even gold items will drop although very few of the gold drop high end chests are best for those. Do not go around buying armour until you reach the top armour protection which in prophesies is Droknars forge way into the game. Use the collectors to equip your character with both armour and weapons. To that end find out where they are and what they want. When you get to Lions arch you should find your money beginning to pile up. Spend a little time going back to earlier part of the game and clearing the map solo to get all the drops. I got to 100k in a short time doing just that now I have around 350k which is plenty for my present needs as I am not into elite armour. |

Just to be clear. At level 14 you're not going to make much money. Prophecies is great to start because it allows you to do skill quests but it doesn't give you much money as you play like factions and nf do. Get to level 20. Play the game. When you finish prophecies, play the other games (if you have them) money will accumulate. It's tough when you start because you have to buy armor and stuff. Just keep in mind, you don't need elite armor, regular armor is exactly the same and much cheaper. You don't need a super rare skinned weapon, normal max weapons do exactly the same thing and are much cheaper. By the time you've been playing a while you'll get better at farming, know what will sell and eventually start building up money. It's like real life, nobody gives you a million dollars when you're 16 and just started working, you have to earn it.

IMO Nightfall is the best place to farm/get money. Once you get off the island, the quests pay better and you get better drops. Only salvage if you need the mats unless your in the starting areas (old ascalon, kamadan area, factions starting island) selling the drops there arent worth it cuz theyre only a few gold for each one. Also pre dye farming is not too bad.

I'd also recommend just picking up everything.
Once you hit 20 things get easier (at least money wise) and you can start doing other little things for money like running or farming. |

if you are at lvl 14, you can go to the Eye. Drops there are quite better than in old Ascalon.

It's a drag having to farm I know, but also try killing the elementals around Sardelac and on the way to Piken - they can drop granite slabs - currently a stack of 10 sells for 220g at the Material trader and sell anything that ID's for less than 50gold to the merchants.
You won't get many runes drop until you make it to Yaks - the Stone Summit and creatures can drop them and that's the other way to increase gold stocks. Also - and it's not said often enough - try asking your Guild for help with runes and materials for armour, if it's a good Guild they won't mind and will be only too pleased to help if they have spare. |

As everyone else has said, complete the game, then worry about making money. Also i agree with Curi, put guesses in on the MAT's, there are threads on these forums about who people think are going to win. If you get a decent round of guesses you could get 30+ tournament reward points, which 5 can be traded in for Z-keys, which sell for 5k each, so 1 tournament reward point = 1k.

Beat the game. Use collector items and collector armor for as long as you can. Idealy use them till the end. You will find that you have alot of money at the end of the game. Spend it on "cheap" weapons/offhands/shields/staves/wands that suit your needs. Buying r10-11 inscribable items will greatly reduce the cost while still yielding a quality weapon, functionally. Do not spend your money on things like "Perfect Godly Weapon Sale".. As you will be wasting it. Buy things from here from people with Green Names in the sell forums because they pawn things off very inexpensively, and generally are selling relatively decent items. Save your money, do not invest in things till you are aware of how buying/selling works. customize your Collector items/weapons... They are worth nothing to anyone but you uncustomized, so the bonus 20% damage is worth it.

identify everything before you sell them, even the whites, and some superior runes are 25g to the trader, but if you identify them by using an identify kit, thir price will go up to 100-150g, it's not much, but money will build up
